One of my favourite parts about working on Fine Leatherworking company is reading the stories, hints and questions which we get from our readers. Together, we’ve got so much collective leatherworking knowledge and wisdom, and it excites me to see us all learning and developing our skills together! To begin this post, I just wanted to thank everyone that writes in to share their ideas and insights. Keep the great stuff coming!
Recently, one of our readers sent us an email with a link to an old post he stumbled upon, entitled,”How to create a Golf Bag.” He’d read our article “Finding Out Of Print Leatherworking Books Near You” and thought that this could make a fantastic follow-up. The post was written in 1962 for The Leather Craftsman Magazine and goes into some really terrific detail about the in’s and out’s of making a golf bag.
It would be easy to assume that creating a golf bag is a long and complex procedure, but after reading the author’s narrative and directions, you may be amazed how simple the meeting is. With the support of one of Al Stohlman’s novels,”How to Split Leather” amongst numerous others, the author goes into detail about how he created the pattern, cut the leather, built the many pieces and stitched it all together. Along with that, he included some notes on the hardware and tools he used. Contained in the write-up are some outdated, but detailed drawings of the pre-assembled bits and his construction procedure.
One of the best ways to enhance your leatherworking skills is to practice beyond your comfort zone. Doing something which you have never done before will permit you to discover the holes in your skill and technique.
