Leather Myths:
“I can not buy leather, we have small children” “I’ve leather because of our children, nothing bad can happen to the furniture”. Both myths! I certainly agree that leather can be a fantastic choice for active families with kids of any age. In actuality, my wife and I have 3 active children ages 5, 8 and 11 and we have leather. However, I think you need to keep a few things in mind to enjoy leather furniture with a busy household: 1. Buy the ideal leather- We have been over this in other posts, but it’s extremely important that you purchase the ideal leather for your loved ones. You need a quality,mid-grade finished leather. It will manage the pressures and spills of everyday household life very well. Most stains should sit on the surface of the leather and provide you ample time to wash them away without staining your leather. 2. Know what to expect- Yes leather could be ideal for families. At exactly the exact same time, truth be told, also many of my service clients call me due to a problem associated with having an active household. But lots of these damages can be avoided if you understand what to anticipate ahead of time. Here are the top issues that I see so that you may prevent them: * Ink damage- Frequently I see a budding little artist that would like to practice their drawing skills on the leather. Watch out for it. * Seams broken in the back attached cushions – This is caused when a relative, usually an older child and friends, jump over the back of the couch or leans back on the rear of the top cushions and breaks the stitching loose. So have the children jump on a trampoline, not the leather furniture. * Nailpolish/remover- Frequently I see leather that’s been discolored when”somebody” (when it occurs nobody will acknowledge it) spills nail polish or nail polish remover on the leather. * Bodily fluids- Wipe spit-up, urine, blood, etc shortly and you should not have a issue, but when these fluids are permitted to sit in your leather for hours, then they could eliminate the finish color. * Moisture- Much with different liquids. Most liquids will wipe easily from fine finished leather if you eliminate them at a reasonable time period. Exceptions may be wet bathing suits, wet,salty/cold snow boots or warm liquids. Keep these off. 3. React quickly if possible- As I explained in the previous point, most non-corrosive liquids only become an issue in your own leather if allowed to sit. So wipe up stains at a reasonable time period and the leather should be OK. If ink stains your leather, it is going to set in the leather in a matter of a few hours to a couple days. It’s far easier to remove ink should you get to it immediately. If a puncture or tear were to happen, having someone fix it immediately is also significant. Tears can spread either through the stress of wear or because little, curious fingers pick at them. So solve little issues with your leather fast and they won’t become significant ones. Relax and enjoy- All that I have said is supposed to assist you prepare for the worst. However, for the most part, just enjoy your leather collection. Quality, mid-grade, finished leather is a fantastic selection for the family. Stains and wear which would destroy a cloth set will be simple clean-up for leather. Do not worry, plastic balls, blades, elbows, little straps and shoe buckles won’t scratch or tear quality finished leather.
